As some of you may or may not have heard, Bell (and Rogers) have implemented a massive increase in cost for licensed establishments to carry TSN and Sportsnet.

For the Royals, we would be looking at a fee of over $300/month for those channels, on top of our regular tv bill.

Please take a few minutes to check out this website below and consider sending emails to the federal government members and Bell or Rogers asking them to cancel the increase in cable fees that will have a negative impact on all curling clubs!

2017-2018 Riverdale season calendar posted

Riverdale curlers: you’ll notice something new in the 2016-2017 season calendar that Cam just posted… This year we will have a playoff weekend rather than two separate playoff weeks.

Often there’s a huge gap between playoff games depending on the timing of Easter and the club’s men’s spiel. That will not be an issue for us this year since all Riverdale playoff games will take place on the weekend of April 1-2, and our final banquet that Sunday evening — almost like a bonspiel.

Another handy benefit to this new schedule is that teams wishing to participate in the Ottawa bonspiel will be able to attend without missing the first game of Riverdale playoffs, like last year.

How will it work? Saturday will be like week 1 of playoffs…all of the quarter finals. And Sunday will be like week 2 of playoffs, with all semi-final and final games will taking place and followed by the final banquet and AGM.

Do you have suggestions for special activities or celebrations during our playoff weekend? Then talk to our Events Coordinator, Scott MacDougall.

We’re also planning something different for Sunday, February 19, which is the Family Day weekend.  It will not be a regular curling weekend as in the past…  Stay tuned for more information on that in the future!

Registration update

Pre-registration has been completed for both the Wednesday and Sunday curling leagues.

There are just 3 individual spots left in Wednesday’s Rotators Curling League…

And on Sunday, we still have room for 3 full teams, as well as a handful of individuals.

So if you’ve been waiting to join either league, come on out to Pegasus on Wednesday, September 14, for our registration night and season-opening party!

Reminder to pre-registered members:  September 14 is also your deadline to pay and secure your spot, so come on out, pay, and have a few drinks to warm up for the 2016-17 season.

Montreal’s BONSPIEL DES PHÉNIX registration is open

Registration for the Bonspiel des Phénix in Montreal has opened – visit their website for details at www.curlinglesphenix.com, and download the registration form here: Bonspiel Registratoin Form

Rotators Update

Pre-registration for the 2016-17 season will open this week.

Watch your inbox and your junk mail folder for more information in the coming days…

And as I said to Riverdale curlers, I hope everyone is enjoying the warm-weather break from curling (unless you participated in the East York summer spiel).  And despite the horrific events in Orlando early Sunday morning, I encourage you to stay positive, love and respect each other, and celebrate Pride this year proudly and without fear.

See you on the ice in October!

Three Riverdale Updates

Hello Riverdale curlers,

I wrote to all 2015-16 members (that I had email addresses for) to update you on three league developments in the last couple of months.  If you didn’t receive that message, the email address we have for you is incorrect or missing — or perhaps check your junk mail folder.  Here are the updates:

Executive membership

———————————————

Many of you may know that Joey Taylor has moved back to Ottawa for a work opportunity (among other reasons), and as a result, he resigned his position as vice president.  As per Article 4, Section E of our constitution, the executive committee chose to fill the vice president position with the appointment of Darren Sutherland, who was our treasurer.  And to fill the role of treasurer, the executive committee asked John Rooney if he was interested in taking on that role.  You may recall that John stood for election at our recent AGM and final banquet in April.  I’m pleased to tell you that John has accepted the offer and is now a member of your executive team.

Rock The Royals campaign

—————————————–

As you probably know, our curling club launched a fundraising campaign in mid-April to replace all of the 96 rocks that we play with each week on sheets A through F.  After a careful review of our finances and expected revenue/expenses for the 2016-17 curling season, the executive committee approved a sponsorship of twelve rocks – one for each colour on all six sheets.  This sponsorship demonstrates our league’s support for the curling club, and the club has been very grateful for that support in return.  Of course, this means that your curling team (and all curling teams in the club) will always be playing with a lucky Riverdale rock in the future…

Pre-registration for 2016-17

—————————————-

You executive committee has been busy since the end of the 2015-16 season in April.  We’ve already met twice, and we are preparing to open pre-registration for the 2016-17 season shortly.  Look for more information on this in the next few days!

In conclusion, I hope everyone is enjoying the warm-weather break from curling (unless you participated in the East York summer spiel).  And despite the horrific events in Orlando early Sunday morning, I encourage you to stay positive, love and respect each other, and celebrate Pride this year proudly and without fear.

See you on the ice in October!
